North Macedonia ‘tax haven’ for Greek businesses

Athens, 29 December 2023 (MIA) – A total of 42 countries, including North Macedonia are on the list having privileged tax regime in 2022 released by the Greece’s Ministry of National Economy and Finance, MIA’s Athens correspondent reported.

The Ministry designates countries with privileged tax regime as those in which “a legal entity or legal person is liable to pay profit, income, or capital tax at a rate equal to or lower than 60 percent of the tax rate applicable to legal entities and legal persons as per the provisions of Greek tax laws, provided they are tax residents or have a permanent business presence in Greece.”

From Europe, the list includes not only North Macedonia but also Bulgaria, Cyprus, Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Monaco, Hungary, and Hungary.

The decision designating the countries with privileged tax status for the year 2022 has been signed by the Greece’s Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, and his deputy, Haris Theocharis, and has already been published in the Official Gazette.

The countries on this year's list remain unchanged from the 2021 tax year, except for the addition of the Tokelau Islands to the new list for 2022.
