Nedelkov: Education Minister's statement over wages doesn't mean SONK has given up on its demand

Nedelkov: Education Minister's statement over wages doesn't mean SONK has given up on its demand

Skopje, 8 August 2024 (MIA) - The statement of the Minister of Education and Science about increasing wages in education from 10 to 12 percent in March 2025 is not in line with SONK's views, said Jakim Nedelkov, leader of the Independent Union of Education, Science and Culture (SONK).

Nedelkov noted in a facebook post that he informs SONK members and the public that the content of Minister Vesna Janevska's statement has not been agreed with SONK.

"It is true that we had a constructive meeting twice and SONK's views were clear: respect for the Law and the Collective Agreement, which is where the demand for aligning wages in primary and secondary education by 12.15 percent comes from. The fact that the Minister said there are no material possibilities this year does not mean that SONK has given up on its demand," Nedelkov's Facebook post reads.

In the coming period, he expects "another meeting with the authorities in the state and resolution of the situation".

"I ask SONK members not to succumb to deliberate provocation and an attempt to break the unity of SONK by individuals and groups, aimed at personal or collective profit. SONK remains the only organization that takes care of the rights and interests of its members," said Nedelkov.
