MP Ilire Dauti resigns as commission chairwoman after losing no-confidence vote

MP Ilire Dauti resigns as commission chairwoman after losing no-confidence vote

Skopje, 16 January 2025 (MIA) – MP Ilire Dauti of Zijadin Sela’s Alliance for Albanians party, part of the European Front coalition, who lost a no-confidence vote in Parliament last week, asked the Speaker to allow her to elaborate why she is stepping down as chairwoman of the Commission for Social Policy, Demographics and Youth during Thursday’s Parliament plenary session.

Parliament is currently in recess.

Responding to her request, Speaker Afrim Gashi said since the agenda was being defined, Dauti can explain she is stepping down at a January 21 plenary session.

“We’re defining the agenda now and you will have time to elaborate at the next session, scheduled on January 21. If you want to breach the Rule of Procedures, fine. I’m telling you, it is against the Rules of Procedures,” said Gashi.

Dauti insisted on being given 15 minutes to explain why she is resigning as commission chairwoman.

“You cannot force me Mr Afrim Gashi. Learn to respect the Rules of Procedures, the laws and procedures. My explanation will be heard today about the bad act done by you. Shame on you! You asked for my resignation and I just resigned. You cannot force me to be here. I want to use my right and to elaborate. I’m demanding 15 minutes to explain why I’m resigning,” said Dauti.

Ilire Dauti, lost a no-confidence vote in Parliament last Friday after 61 MPs voted for her ouster.

Twenty-two MPs were against her leaving her post as chairwoman of the Parliamentary Commission on Social Policy, Demography and Youth, and SDSM MPs were absent from the session, after they said her ouster would not be a solution to the problem.

The motion of no confidence against Dauti was moved by Levica in November because of, as they said, her blocking the adoption of the Defenders Law through her "unconscionable, irresponsible, unconstitutional and illegal actions."
