Mortality down by 10.1 percent in 2023: statistics
- According to the State Statistical Office data, there were 20,187 deaths in the Republic of North Macedonia in 2023, which represents a decrease of 10.1% compared with previous year. The structure by sex shows higher male participation, 10,640 or 52.7% of the total number of deaths. The number of infant deaths was 30 and the participation of infant deaths in the total number of deaths was 0.1% (per 100 deaths).

Skopje, 14 June 2024 (MIA) - According to the State Statistical Office data, there were 20,187 deaths in the Republic of North Macedonia in 2023, which represents a decrease of 10.1% compared with previous year. The structure by sex shows higher male participation, 10,640 or 52.7% of the total number of deaths. The number of infant deaths was 30 and the participation of infant deaths in the total number of deaths was 0.1% (per 100 deaths).
By months, most deaths were in January (1976).
The average age of deaths was 72.1 years for males and 76.5 years for females, which means that women outlive men by 4.4 years on average.
Most deaths were due to circulatory diseases (I00-I99), up to 43.8% of total number of deaths, neoplasms (C00-D48)
with 18.6%, while with 7.2% were deaths due endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases (E00-E90), deaths due to respiratory system diseases (J00-J99) with 4.7%, and others with lower participation.
