Athens, 20 May 2024 (MIA) — Amid the current circumstances, the 'Macedonian' label is becoming a powerful tool of economic diplomacy; I am sorry when I hear top Greek wine producers saying some wines labeled as Macedonian are leading foreign customers to think about North Macedonia when they talk about Macedonian wines, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told the Greek Exporters Association general assembly in Thessaloniki, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.

In his remarks, Mitsotakis also expressed his full support for the trademark "Macedonia the Great" for Greek products, promoted in November 2019 by the Greek Exporters Association.

"It took us some time to register (the trademark), but we are on the right track," Mitsotakis said. 

"It is a move that has gained importance after the latest provocative regressions by our northern neighbors. Our diplomatic response should be accompanied by a commercial counterattack, primarily through the authenticity and quality of the products and services of our Macedonia," he said. 

"It is in your hands to achieve this together," Mitsotakis told the assembly. mr/
