MIA's correspondent Viktorija Dimitrova Jovanova wins SEMM award for best story on facts and disinformation on the environment

Skopje, 23 April 2024 (MIA) – Journalist Viktorija Dimitrova Jovanova, national correspondent for the Media Information Agency (MIA), has won the award for best story on the topic "Facts and Disinformation on the Environment", for her story on Shtip firefighters’ frequent response to emergencies that increase the risk of large fires caused by stubble burning.

The prize is awarded by the Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia (SEMM) as part of the EU-UNESCO supported project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe: Support to Journalism as a Public Good”.

“I am honored to receive this award. The story, as you could see, is about stubble. However, I was inspired by the Shtip firefighters who were operating at emergency scenes during 40 °C heat of the summer, while stubble was set on fire in the meantime,” Jovanova told Tuesday’s event.

In addition to Jovanova, SEMM also presented a commendation to MIA’s Kavadraci correspondent Svetlana Darudova for her story on the losses of grapes waste not being used for energy production.
