Skopje, 18 September 2023 (MIA) – Health Minister Fatmir Mexhiti said Monday that the protests over Oncology Clinic case have been misused and appealed protests not to be used for scoring cheap political points and such protests not to be used as they endanger the lives of the patients.

“The right to protest is guaranteed by the Constitution of North Macedonia and I think it is the most democratic act. Everyone has the right to protest, and I support such protests, however the protests over Oncology Clinic case have been misused and appealed not to be used for scoring cheap political points and such protests not to be used as they endanger the lives of the patients,” Mexhiti told reporters.

Concerning the Oncology case, which is led by the Prosecutor’s Office, Mexhiti expects the investigation to be completed as soon as possible and to put an end to the uncertainty.

"We send all the information, and the patients that contact us, to the Prosecutor's Office. I expect when final decision is to be reached to be transparently stated. I encourage them to put an end to this uncertainty as soon as possible,” Mexhiti said.

Regarding the allegations that patients came to Oncology from abroad, Mexhiti said that he currently has no information, but even if he had, he could not share it because of the case being handled by the Prosecutor's Office.

Minister Mexhiti said that an inventory is being made of all the devices that are donated and not used in healthcare.

“Regarding the accelerators, from the first day I told and sent the services that are responsible for this program, where there is an expensive donation that has been paid and that is not used by the health professionals, to have an inventory and to know exactly where, what we have and if there is a staff, and to distribute those devices to another institution, where they will be useful,” he added.

In relation to the Oncology accelerator, he said he does not know why it was not used.
