Mexhiti: European Front to see its own destabilization

Skopje, 6 October 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti said Sunday the withdrawal of (DPA leader) Menduh Thaci from the opposition European Front is the beginning of their end, noting that the coalition would see its own destabilization.

"They are not used to be in opposition. They want to be part of the authorities at all costs, but the European Front is not tied neither ideologically nor historically. This coalition is not there because of the European values or their ideology but solely to come to power. When there is no power, there is nothing to tie them together, and they will slowly but surely see their own destabilization. This is the beginning of their end," Deputy PM Mexhiti told reporters at a press conference on the Government's 100 days in office.

Regarding SDSM's proposal for a closed session regarding the Euro-integration process, Mexhiti said the Government is now dictating the agenda, working intensively to deliver on its promises.

"European integration is one of the Government's top priorities. The opposition had plenty of time, there were in power for eight years and did not do anything. We are committed to this agenda, and they should work on the reforms within their ranks," said Mexhiti.

According to him, DUI's demand for vetting of politicians is neither serious nor sincere.

"If DUI was sincere in their will to do the vetting, they had time to do this. Fighting corruption is one of the Government's top five priorities," noted Mexhiti.

The Deputy PM also said DUI's claim they would work on unblocking the Euro-integration process was irrelevant, "since they did not do anything while in power".
