Low implementation of SCPC recommendations ‘very disappointing’, says EU Ambassador

Skopje, 7 February 2024 (MIA) – The European Union’s Ambassador to North Macedonia, David Geer, assessed the low implementation of the recommendations of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) as “very disappointing” in answer to a journalist’s question on Wednesday. The Ambassador stressed that all recommendations of the SCPC and the State Audit Office are publicly available, and the citizens expect them to be followed up.

“The work of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption is very important because it raises issues of concern with citizens and the institutions. But what is disturbing is the fact when you look at their recommendations in recent years, the figures of implementation of those recommendations have gone from 20 percent to 10 percent to most recently to 14 percent. That is very disappointing” said Geer

The Ambassador underlined that both he and the citizens expect to see a high implementation of the SCPC recommendations, as well as follow-up to the reports of the State Audit.

“We expect to see, as citizens do, high implementation of those important recommendations, as we expect to see follow up to the important reports of the State Audit authority. The reports and recommendations from both institutions are not a mystery. They are publicly available, I read them, citizens read them – we expect them to be followed up,” stressed the Ambassador.
