'Kriva Palanka - 2024 City of Culture' to feature over 50 events

Skopje, 6 March 2024 (MIA) – Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska and Kriva Palanka Municipality Mayor Sashko Mitovski presented on Wednesday the 'Kriva Palanka 2024 City of Culture' programme which is set to feature over 50 events, comprising shows, concerts, theatre plays, literary talks and more. 

 

Speaking at Wednesday's press conference at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle in Skopje, Minister Kostadinovska-Stojchevska said the Ministry of Culture will be providing Mden 3 million support to the Municipality of Kriva Palanka, while the Municipality will be providing Mden 10 million. 

 

She pointed out that Kriva Palanka as the country's 2024 City of Culture will enable cooperation and international connection which will present Macedonian culture beyond the borders in the future.

 

"In addition to promoting culture, the numerous events will contribute to welcoming more visitors to the city, affirming the cultural and natural wealth of this region, the beauties of Osogovo, the unique Osogovo Monastery, the rich sites, creating a model of self-sustainability in culture and supporting tourism. All this together will certainly contribute to the economic benefits of Kriva Palanka," said Kostadinovska-Stojchevska. 

 

 

Mayor Mitovski noted that Kriva Palanka has taken on the title of City of Culture for the second time since 2013, adding that the title is a crowning achievement of the efforts towards building a recognizable image of the city as a destination for cultural tourism.

 

"We achieved this by preserving traditional values, promoting the cultural and historical wealth that the city has in abundance, supporting international events and festivals that have a long tradition of being held in the Municipality and creating new events for different audiences, which to my great pleasure, contributed to Kriva Palanka attracting the attention of the public," said Mitovski. 

 

'Kriva Palanka - 2024 City of Culture', he pointed out, will continue the route taken and place the small municipality on a pedestal with a large and diverse repertoire.  

 

"As part of the 'City of Culture', we created a programme featuring more than 50 events, including concerts, classical, jazz and popular music performed by top musicians from the Macedonian scene, theatre performances, art exhibitions, literary events, folklore, tradition, film art, a program for the youngest, simply, culture available to all," said Mitovski.
