Kovachevski: VMRO-DPMNE hinders country's European path

Skopje, 17 November 2023 (MIA) - Responsibility has a name and surname, VMRO-DPMNE and its leadership, who oppose the continuation of the country's European path. The ones who hindered the NATO membership are now hindering the European accession, says Prime Minister and SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski in an interview with Kanal 5 TV.

"We had a VMRO-DPMNE-led government for 11 years, which did not make a single step forward in the NATO and EU accession process. They only delayed the process, which eventually led to more difficult decisions, primarily in the case of the Prespa Agreement. We see more of the same today. The constitutional amendments are blocked by VMRO-DPMNE. Responsibility has a name and surname, VMRO-DPMNE and its leadership, who oppose the continuation of the country's European path. Why? For political reasons and playing with people's emotions by using a rhetoric that leads to the past, not the future. Our coalition is committed to the continuation of the process and I believe the day will come when all MPs realize there is no alternative and the only way to progress is EU accession. We know best what waiting looks like. North Macedonia waited for 17 years to get the Negotiating Framework and start the accession talks," says Kovachevski.

He adds that EU accession means higher standard of life, economic prosperity, social justice, democracy and rule of law, SDSM said in a press release.

Kovachevski notes, "the process is still alive and will remain alive because EU membership has no alternative."

He is certain that SDSM and its pro-European coalition would win the next parliamentary and presidential elections in 2024 and bring the country into the EU.
