Kovachevski to attend regional conference on renewable energy in Belgrade on Thursday
Belgrade, 15 November 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski will participate in a regional conference on “Opportunities for investment in renewable energy in the Western Balkans” in Belgrade on Thursday, November 17.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zoran Tegeltija will also participate in the conference, which is organized by the Royal Norwegian Embassies in Sarajevo and Belgrade in cooperation with the Nordic Business Alliance, Norway-BiH Business Association and partners for cooperation in the area of energy, MIA reports from Belgrade.
President Vučić and Norway’s Deputy Minister of Energy Andreas Eriksen will open the conference.
“The occasion is to present solutions for renewable energy sources - their profiles in relation to other technologies, and explain how they can fit into the wider picture of the Western Balkans to be part of that green transition. It would also be interesting for Norwegians to hear what favorable investment conditions exist here,” Norwegian Ambassador in Belgrade, Jørn Gjelstad, told EuroNews Serbia on Tuesday.
He noted that the conference will also include a panel on financing and development, with international investors, which will be opened by Norway’s Finance Minister.
“I’m very optimistic, and this can raise awareness and engagement and I hope that energy will be a big part of the bilateral agenda between our countries and the Western Balkans. I also want to point out that this conference, which will bring together leaders from the region on the topic of energy and climate, will result in better understanding of how energy can be used as a driver of a stronger region with more cooperation, more integration and more trust. Energy is something that interests everyone, and is a common challenge before us,” said the Norwegian Ambassador.
He noted that in order to make the Nordic region fully sustainable, the Nordic Council of Ministers founded the Nordic Green project, adding that it is known that the Nordic countries have close cooperation in many fields, as well as solidarity with other countries.
Gjelstad added that it is definitely necessary to adopt certain measures, because the winter will be extremely difficult, but at the same time, we should not lose sight of the medium and long-term interests - above all, a healthy environment.
