Skopje, 30 October 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Sunday the fact that Macedonian citizens can go and enjoy the opening of a cultural club in Bulgaria is one of the benefits of the agreement reached with Sofia, announcing that the Government would send an official request to the neighboring authorities over the opening of a culture and information center in Bulgaria. Asked about his absence from today's opening of the Macedonian culture club in Blagoevgrad, PM Kovachevski said today’s Government session on the energy crisis management was the reason. “I am pleased that Macedonian citizens, including (VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan) Mickoski and (Levica leader Dimitar) Apasiev can freely go and enjoy a cultural club in Bulgaria. I believe this is one of the benefits of the agreement we reached with Bulgaria and the start of the EU accession negotiations. I am happy that even the opposition is recognizing this,” Kovachevski told reporters. He reaffirmed the wish for goodneighborly relations, urging against tensions or conflicts when visiting countries. “The Government will submit an official request to the Bulgarian authorities for the opening of a culture and information center such as the ones in Sofia, Tirana and Sarajevo, where all citizens declaring themselves as Macedonians can come, but also others who can acquaint with our culture and heritage,” said Kovachevski. The PM also noted that he promised that North Macedonia would begin the EU negotiations with a clear Macedonian language and identity, which has been confirmed by the signing of the Frontex agreement. “The Macedonian language is part of the agreement alongside all other EU languages, approved by all 27 member-states. I have delivered on my promise,” underlined Kovachevski.
