Kovachevski: Constitutional changes are North Macedonia’s internal matter

Skopje, 6 April 2023 (MIA) – The process of amending the Constitution is North Macedonia’s internal matter, and a task related to the European Union accession negotiations, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski in answer to a journalist’s question on Thursday.

“The Foreign Minister has already shared his position on Bulgaria’s request to be involved, and I fully agree with his statement that the constitutional changes process is North Macedonia’s internal matter, and a task related to the EU accession talks” said Kovachevski.

The Prime Minister stressed that this is a decision that only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the political parties and Parliament are in charge of.

“There is no possibility nor a political will to involve anyone from abroad in the process,” said Kovachevski.

Regarding the statement made by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov over Bulgaria’s involvement in the process, Kovachevski said that perhaps the statement wasn’t made in the right context.

“However, all interested parties can follow this process through the media, because the media will be a part of the process, which, as I said, will begin in the expert commission at the Ministry of Justice,” added Kovachevski.

The PM once again stressed that only the Macedonian institutions will be in charge of making decisions on this issue.
