Kovachevski: Clear formulation on language, clear protection of Macedonian identity crucial for French proposal to be acceptable
Skopje, 22 June 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski once again confirmed that the Government has formally not received a proposal that is aligned by all 27 EU member-states, saying any solution should be consulted with the institutions of North Macedonia. “Whatever the final text of the French proposal, let me stress that the following elements are key in order for it to be acceptable – clear formulation of the Macedonian language in the negotiating framework and clear protection of the Macedonian identity, historic issues not a benchmark in the negotiating framework,” PM Kovachevski wrote in a Facebook post. He says negotiations between North Macedonia and EU must begin prior to the launch of the constitution revision over incorporation of Bulgarians, Croats and Montenegrins in the Constitution preamble. “Firm guarantees from both Bulgaria and the European Union that Sofia will not deliver new demands beyond what has been agreed in the negotiating framework and the bilateral protocol that has still not been harmonized with Bulgaria,” says Kovachevski and adds that any solution will have to be coordinated with the institutions of North Macedonia.
