Kostadinovska Stojchevska: Any affirmation of Macedonian language abroad is to be welcomed

Skopje, 18 January 2024 (MIA) – Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska praised the opening of a Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture Lectorate in Tirana, pointing out that any affirmation of the Macedonian language abroad is to be welcomed.

In a statement to the media ahead of Thursday's forum at the Union of Fighters, the Minister noted that the activity is regulated by an interstate agreement.

"I'd like to welcome the establishment of a Macedonian language course within the University of Tirana. The opening of a lectorate is regulated by an interstate agreement. Of course, this is still at the level of a free course, as the one at the University of Foreign Languages in Korçë, which was set up with joint efforts with the Macedonian Language Council, where the Macedonian language will be taught as a foreign language for the second year now and a free online course is also offered. In addition, as of next academic year, the Macedonian language course will become mandatory in the study programs of this Faculty of Philology, i.e. the Faculty in Korçë," she said.

A Macedonian Language Lectorate was opened on Wednesday at the Faculty of Foreign Languages within the University of Tirana, at the initiative of the Skopje-based Ss. Cyril and Methodius University’s International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture.

Macedonian Language Lectorates have been opened in several university centers in the world, including Poland, Romania, China, Russia, Turkey, Hungary, France, Croatia and other countries.
