Kasami says Besa to continue supporting gov’t as long as it’s on EU integration track
Tirana, 2 November 2021 (MIA) – As long as North Macedonia’s government is on the EU integration track, the movement Besa will support it, Besa leader Bilal Kasami has said. “To us, EU integration is one of the highest priorities, the highest it can be. We’re prepared to bridge all deep differences with DUI. The only factor holding us together to be in the government is EU integration,” Kasami told Albania’s News24. North Macedonia, he said, cannot be an isolated island and has to cooperate with western partners. Kasami also accused DUI of “blocking the integration process.” “For ten years, VMRO-DPMNE and DUI had been blocking the integration process. The SDSM-Besa coalition, formed in 2017, produced two terms more in order to form a government,” Kasami stated. In Sunday’s local election runoff, Kasami was elected mayor of the city of Tetovo defeating DUI’s candidate Teuta Arifi, who sought re-election.
