Mickoski: UK strategic partnership to benefit citizens – modernization of Corridor X railway, healthcare projects
- The more strategic agreements and partnerships we have with big and important global factors, such as the United Kingdom, the longer and more stable Macedonia’s perspective as a country, but also the citizens, will be. I see this agreement as a step forward in that direction. I am convinced that this type of friendship and partnership can only bring good things for our citizens, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Monday, when quizzed about the strategic partnership agreement with the UK.

Skopje, 19 May 2025 (MIA) - The more strategic agreements and partnerships we have with big and important global factors, such as the United Kingdom, the longer and more stable Macedonia’s perspective as a country, but also the citizens, will be. I see this agreement as a step forward in that direction. I am convinced that this type of friendship and partnership can only bring good things for our citizens, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Monday, when quizzed about the strategic partnership agreement with the UK.
“From an economic sense, we already mentioned we have a framework as part of which they are making around EUR 6 billion available to us, or around GBP 5 billion, concerning two types of projects that have been agreed,” the Prime Minister said.
The first project, according to Mickoski, is the “reconstruction, modernization and construction of one more track on the railway that is a part of Corridor X, from Tabanovce to Gevgelija”.
“The second group of projects is related to healthcare – the long-awaited completion of the Clinical Center in Shtip, alongside the Medical Faculty and student dormitories with a capacity of 200 students, completion of the health facility in Kichevo and the reconstruction of the Clinical Hospital in Tetovo,” PM Mickoski said.
The Prime Minister said the Government would continue to use the framework at its disposal for energy projects, transport projects, and projects in healthcare.
“If everything works out in line with our expectations, it could also be possible to construct the large clinical center in Skopje in the foreseeable future. So, the benefits will multiply, I am convinced that as a country we are on the brink of a transformational period. We are talking about transformational projects that aim to provide added value – not only to the quality of the life of the citizens in the country, but also to the Macedonian economy in general,” the Prime Minister stressed.
High delegations from both governments are expected to sign the agreement in London in the coming days.
