Hematology Clinic to become regional center for treatment of most serious blood diseases

Hematology Clinic to become regional center for treatment of most serious blood diseases
Skopje, 9 November 2022 (MIA) – A delegation from the United States European Command visited the PHI Clinic of Hematology on Wednesday, where intensive construction is being done on the second floor of the building, funded with USD 1 million by the Command’s assistance program. This amount is intended to fund the expansion of the hospitalization capacities, i.e., the construction of another floor. “The new capacities, along with the established state-of-the-art methods of treatment and medical care, offer the opportunity for the clinic to establish itself at the top of the most significant centers for the treatment of hematological diseases in the wider region,” said the Clinic. This investment, they said, greatly facilitates the everyday operations of the Clinic and the patients, considering the fact that in recent years the utilization of the Clinic's hospitalization capacities has been over 100 percent and more beds are required every day. “Thanks to the US donation, the Clinic will annually admit 70 new patients with malignant diseases. With this financial support, the US recognizes the potential of the managerial and medical team at PHI Clinic of Hematology – Skopje,” said the Clinic. Hematology CLinic director Irina Panovska-Stavridis said that according to the dynamic construction plan, the new floor is expected to be put into use in June 2023. “The new department will treat at least 50-60 patients annually from North Macedonia and 10-15 from the neighboring countries, which we were not able to admit before due to lack of space. These are patients with malignant hematological diseases, one of the most vulnerable groups of patients. The Clinic is now on the map of global and European medical centers for the treatment of the most serious blood diseases. With this donation, the Clinic has received added value from a technical point of view, space and equipment that will additionally improve the medical care received by the patients,” said Panovska-Stavridis. According to her, when the new department begins operations, the patients will be able to receive everything that the most modern centers of this kind have and offer. ad/ik/
