Grkovska: Cybersecurity poses same challenges for all countries, joint and coordinated approach necessary to overcome them

Skopje, 29 November 2023 (MIA) – No country can independently tackle the challenges of cybersecurity and cyber resilience. Because regardless of how much a country is developed or not, we all face the same risks, the same challenges, and that’s why a coordinated approach is necessary, said the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance policies, Slavica Grkovska, in her introductory address at the Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building 2023 held in Accra, Ghana.

According to a government press release, in her address Grkovska stressed the importance of ensuring that cyber policies are an integral part of the collective efforts to reduce gaps in socio-economic development and fulfill the global development goals.

“On one hand, digitization helps accelerate development and make more significant steps towards the improvement of services and standards for the citizens in less developed countries. But, on the other hand, regression or stagnation in this field becomes an additional complicating and undermining factor for all other development policies,” said Grkovska in her address at the plenary session.

The Deputy PM added that a successful process of digital transformation of society, as well as a cybersecure and resilient society, require a broad political and societal consensus over the need for investments in the appropriate technical capacities and infrastructure, as well as the creation of qualified human.

According to the press release, at the opening of the conference, the participants jointly supported “The Accra Call for Cyber Resilient Development”, which strives for a stronger partnership and coordination, and represents a framework for global action.

On Wednesday, the Deputy PM will address two panel sessions focusing on the processes for the enhancement of cybersecurity capacities, as well as on the gender gap and unconventional strategies for the inclusion of women in the field.

The Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building 2023 is being organized by the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE), alongside the World Bank, World Economic Forum (WEF), and the CyberPeace Institute.
