Grkovska: Applying good governance principles strengthens institutions and citizens’ trust
Skopje, 17 November 2022 (MIA) – The start of European Union accession negotiations and meeting membership criteria will enhance capacities of institutions, Deputy PM in Charge of Good Governance Policies, Slavica Grkovska, told the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Forum & Public Governance Ministerial Meeting themed “Building Trust and Reinforcing Democracy” in Luxembourg on Thursday. Deputy PM Grkovska told session “Accountable public administrations for stronger democracies in Eastern and Southeastern Europe and MENA - focus on Ukraine” that rising citizens’ trust in institutions and public administration reforms require full and consistent implementation of the good governance principles of responsibility, accountability, transparency, professionalism and efficiency, both by public administration employees and office holders, accompanied by a change of the awareness that public administration is there to serve the people, the Government said in a press release. “Implementation of these principles means complete reform of the public administration, a process that cannot happen at once and one that requires strategic and long-term approach. Therefore, it is necessary to have consensus within the society over the need for this reform but also continuity in its realization, because trust in institutions cannot be earned overnight,” said Grkovska. According to her, the Government is committed to a professional, responsible and accountable administration, with the office in charge of good governance policies focusing on the creation of professional, responsible and efficient institutions, anti-corruption policies and digital transformation of the society, reads the press release.
