Skopje, 17 January 2023 (MIA) – The Government at a session on Tuesday dismissed Marjan Spasovski from the post of director of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, after Skopje prison inmate Bekim Memeti escaped from the Idrizovo prison.
Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski announced Spasovski’s dismissal on Monday. In response to a reporter’s question, Kovachevski said he was not satisfied with Spasovski’s work.
“I’m not satisfied with the work of the director of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions at the Ministry of Justice, and I have started a process of selecting a new director,” said Kovachevski.
In addition to Spasovski, after Memeti fleed, a commander and prison officers were suspended from office. A court ordered 8-day detention of the commander and two prison officers suspected of aiding and abetting the escape, and precautionary measures were imposed on a fourth suspect.
