Skopje, 26 June 2024 (MIA) - Following the creation of the new Government, the Gender Equality Platform expressed serious concern over the insufficient inclusion of women in all levels of management. The organization said it is disturbing that the exclusion of women from executive power is highly evident in the new Government.
“Despite the breakthrough achieved by the country with the election of its first female president – a commendable achievement, the momentum over greater inclusion of women in high positions of power and decision-making seems to be at a standstill,” the Gender Equality Platform said in a press release Wednesday.
The Platform noted that a humble 25 percent of ministerial posts were held by women in the previous Government (5 of 16 ministries), but the number has now been halved, with only three women holding ministerial positions out of a total 24 (or 13 percent).
The Gender Equality Platform urged immediate action to remove all barriers to the inclusion of women in politics and to ensure fair and equal representation at all levels of power. “Achieving real gender equality is not only a matter of fairness, but a necessary prerequisite for the democratic and social progress of North Macedonia,” it stressed.
