Filipche: Measure covering only fully vaccinated citizens in mid-October
Skopje, 24 September 2021 (MIA) – For the time being, there are no new restrictions in addition to the citizens required to present a proof of being vaccinated with at least one dose to attend events or to go to restaurants. A measure will be introduced in mid-October which covers only full vaccinated citizens, Health Minister Venko Filipche said Friday.
The measure, he said, is being introduced by all Western European countries for travel, at borders, events, hospitality businesses, etc.
Filipche reiterated that the country has approved booster third shots for people over 60, all health workers regardless of age and immunocompromised patients. “World’s leading studies say that the efficiency of vaccine is significantly improved with a third dose six months after people have received their second shot,” he told Kanal 5 TV.
Around 37 percent of the population in North Macedonia is fully vaccinated, said Filipche adding the goal is the vaccination rate to increase.
He announced that a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine might be recommended for people from other age groups.
“The virus is spreading among the unvaccinated. Over 86 percent of the confirmed case are unvaccinated people. People have to understand that vaccination is the only way to bring back our lives to normal and to unburden the health system and it is the only way for them to protect their health,” Minister Filipche stressed.
