Economy Ministry proposes scrapping subsidized electricity for food industry

Skopje, 24 February 2023 (MIA) - The Ministry of Economy has submitted a proposal to the Government to scrap the subsidized electricity measure for companies from the food industry.

The Ministry's analyses show that a large part of the companies using subsidized electricity from ESM Sales at a price of EUR 80 per MWh, have not reduced the prices of basic food products, the Ministry said in a press release.

Based on the analysis and data from the State Market Inspectorate, the proposal of the Economy Ministry is to scrap the measure for all companies from the food sector.

"The subsidized electricity measure of EUR 80 per MWh for companies producing basic food products was in place from December 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023. The measure applied to companies that produce oil, bread and bakery products, flour, milk and dairy products, the meat and poultry industry," reads the press release.

The purpose of this measure, adds the press release, was for companies from the food sector to reduce the prices of basic food products.
