DUI and People’s Movement agree joint participation in coming elections as ‘European Front’

Skopje, 19 March 2024 (MIA) – The leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), Ali Ahmeti, and the leader of the People’s Movement, Skender Rexhepi Zejd, signed an agreement Tuesday over joint participation in the coming presidential and parliamentary elections as part of a coalition named “European Front”.

After the signing of the agreement, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti said they have always dreamed of the Albanians being united in a single front.

“The Albanians in this country are coming together because things are developing badly on a global level. We have nothing against the political parties, they can exist, but they lack the capacity to deal with the events that are occurring around us and further away from us, in Europe and in the Middle East. And that’s why supporting this unity is more than necessary. Not only by the Albanian community, but also by the Turkish, the Bosniak, the Roma community, because this front will really help them with all its capacities,” said Ahmeti.

The DUI leader said the party is doing everything to ensure the country is moving towards the EU, since, he said, it is the only option, and a way to stop the emigration of the country’s citizens.

“It is no coincidence that we reached an agreement with Skender Rexhepi. Yes to Europe, no to Russia! Russia isn’t something we should ignore, because it is already in our country, they have established a political party in our country, they have media outlets in our country, they have established militants in our country who want to obstruct the path that we’re strongly committed to, and the fact we want a peaceful Balkans, one that will join both NATO and the EU. And that’s why I urge a total mobilization on April 24, as a referendum on whether we will move forward or stay where we are. On May 8 we will decide the same as well,” stressed Ahmeti.

The leader of the People’s Movement, Skender Rexhepi Zejd, assessed the establishment of the “European Front” as a historic event that will be remembered.

“This front will bring changes, an improvement to the living standard. The European Front is just a beginning, a good initiative that will demonstrate that we are achieving our goals through work and long-term actions,” said Rexhepi.
