Deputy Minister Jajaga attends Ukraine Defense Contact Group, NATO defense ministers meetings

Skopje, 14 June 2024 (MIA) - Deputy Defense Minister Tiron Jajaga took part in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council in NATO defense ministers format at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, held on June 13-14, discussing preparations for the NATO Summit in Washington that will be held in July, as well strengthening the Alliance's role in supporting Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release on Friday.

Defense Ministers attended two separate sessions of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and the NATO-Ukraine Council, discussing Ukraine's pressing needs in defending itself against Russia's aggression, as well as strengthening the framework for long-term support to Ukraine that will allow for predictability, accountability and transparency of this process.

"The meetings focused on strengthening the concept of deterrence and defense as a basis for maintaining a secure and stable Euro-Atlantic area. Defense ministers discussed the process of adapting the NATO command structure, implementing defense plans, and developing integrated defense systems. The topic of the meetings was the intensification of hybrid attacks, especially cyber-attacks and disinformation campaigns by Russia, as well as NATO's nuclear defense," the press release reads.

On the sidelines of the meeting, an exhibition was also held under the auspices of the NATO Secretary General Special Representative on Women, Peace and Security Irene Fellin, where specific uniforms and equipment for women soldiers in Ukraine were presented, as part of NATO's Women, Peace and Security Agenda. ssh/nn/
