Women's Economic Forum: Financial literacy contributes to social growth and development
- Financial literacy of young people should be improved through lessons and extracurricular activities in order to provide them with quality life and enable them to plan their own budget and finances, concluded the participants in Sunday’s 3rd Women’s Economic Forum in Skopje.

Skopje, 30 March 2025 (MIA) – Financial literacy of young people should be improved through lessons and extracurricular activities in order to provide them with quality life and enable them to plan their own budget and finances, concluded the participants in Sunday’s 3rd Women’s Economic Forum in Skopje.
Macedonian education in its curriculums contains financial literacy classes both in elementary and high school to teach students how to manage their finances, said Education Minister Vesna Janevska.
“Every system can be improved, which is why the Ministry has been sharing information and experience with the Education Bureau, the National Bank, the Macedonian Banking Associations on how to improve this segment of the educational process,” she added.
According to OECD, Janevska said, financial education and literacy has been incorporated in many subjects, including maths, civil society, business, entrepreneurship, innovation. “There is space to add more training, for teachers primarily, projects for students, workshop as well as extracurricular activities,” she added.
Citing findings from a research, Ana Dokoska, head of the Jas Sum Zhena (I’m a Woman) association, financial literacy hasn’t been introduced as a subject in all schools. “In events such as this one we want to contribute to one day all schools having financial literacy subjects because a population that is financially educated can play a role in social growth and development,” she said.
The forum, held under the auspices of the Municipality of Kisela Voda in Skopje, is organized by the Jas Sum Zhena Association, Global Shapers Skopje Hub, and the Faculty of Business and Tourism at the Shtip University. In addition to Minister Janevska, the event will also see an address by Finance Minister Gordana Kochoska Dimitrieska.
