Defence Minister Petrovska visits Strasho Pindzur barracks in Petrovec

Skopje, 13 April 2023 (MIA) – Defence Minister Slavjanka Petrovska visited on Thursday the Strasho Pindzur barracks in Petrovec, where the First Infantry Brigade, which is the largest unit of the Army, is based.

“Defence Minister Petrovska toured the army facility in the barracks in Petrovec, which was reconstructed in the past four months and today represents a true representative of the NATO Army, in which the standard of Army members and their working conditions are the first priority,” the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.

Petrovska expressed her satisfaction in the improvement of the working conditions and the standards of the Army members, adding that the army facilities are being reconstructed to befit an Army and a NATO member state.

She also said that the complete reconstruction of the facility amounted Mden 21.7 million including the replacement of electrical and plumbing installation, heating installation, new roof construction, new windows…

According to the Defence Ministry's plan, the reconstruction of at least five additional facilities of importance to the defence and the Army will kick off this year.

Minister Petrovska also opened the new memorial room in the barracks in Petrovec dedicated to the First Infantry Brigade, which uphold the traditions of two other prominent units from the National Liberation War, namely the 14th Macedonian Youth Assault Liberation Brigade formed in 1944 and the Kichevo-Mavrovo Partisan Squad.

“Such memorial rooms are just another incentive to create a large Military Museum, because the Macedonian Army has long-standing tradition,” Petrovska said.
