Skopje, 4 June 2024 (MIA) - Judge Darko Kostadinovski has been elected as the new president of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Court said in a press release Tuesday.

Kostadinovski’s election comes after several failed attempts by the constitutional judges to elect a president. He is to succeed previous president Dobrila Kacarska whose three-year term ended on June 2.

On Monday, judge Ana Pavlovska-Daneva withdrew her nomination, but her opponent Tanja Vasikj-Bozadzieva once again failed to secure the required majority. Another attempt followed with the judges voting for judge Osman Kadriu, who also failed to receive the needed majority.

The Constitutional Court said judge Vasikj-Bozadzieva earned five votes in all the attempts she was nominated for. Kadriu also only received five votes in the Court’s eighth attempt to elect a president on Monday.

The session for the election of president of the Constitutional Court began on May 30.
