Council of Public Prosecutors delays election of Skopje and Gostivar HPPO chiefs

Council of Public Prosecutors delays election of Skopje and Gostivar HPPO chiefs
Skopje, 21 November 2022 (MIA) – The Council of Public Prosecutors, at the resumption of the 70th session Monday, named interim chief prosecutors of two higher and five basic public prosecutor’s offices, due to a lack of quorum for the election of new chiefs. The Council’s President, Antonio Jolevski, explained that due to the absence of Ljubomir Joveski they lack the necessary conditions for the election of chief prosecutors of HPPO Skopje and Gostivar, and will fill the empty posts with interim prosecutors until the conditions for electing new chiefs are created. State Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski did not attend Monday’s session of the Council, because, according to the Council’s President, he has been hospitalized since Friday due to a worsened health condition. At the session the Council of Public Prosecutors named Mustafa Hajrulahi as interim chief of HPPO Skopje and Vjollca Omazi as interim chief of HPPO Gostivar, as well as the interim chiefs of BPPO Bitola, BPPO Veles, BPPO Gostivar, BPPO Kavadarci and BPPO Kumanovo. The decision to open the call for four public prosecutors at the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption was on the agenda of the session as well, only for it to be delayed again. The Council also proposed that Public Prosecutor Besir Aliu become member of the management board of the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors, in place of Islam Abazi who withdrew from his post. ad/sk/
