Coordination meeting in Parliament to define details on sessions related to caretaker gov't

Skopje, 23 January 2024 (MIA) - Speaker Talat Xhaferi will hold an informal press briefing on Wednesday over the Parliament's current and coming activities, preceded by a coordination meeting to define the exact dates of the sessions related to resignations and election of a caretaker government.
As previously announced, lawmakers will first verify the resignations of the Prime Minister (Dimitar Kovachevski) and the Parliament Speaker (Talat Xhaferi), followed by the election of a new Speaker (Jovan Mitreski). The President will then be informed on the new mandate for the PM (Talat Xhaferi), followed by the election of a government, ministers, deputy ministers and additional deputy ministers, as well as verification of the mandate of a new MP.
A caretaker government is set to be elected by Sunday midnight, headed by Talat Xhaferi. This government will implement the first round of the presidential elections on April 24 and the May 8 parliamentary elections and presidential runoff.
Representatives of VMRO-DPMNE and opposition parties of ethnic Albanians have not attended coordination meetings, with the latter saying it will boycott the Parliament due to the failure to elect their candidate as member of the State Election Commission.
