Rome, 24 May 2023 (MIA) - Concert of young and talented artists Goce Zlatev on piano and Magdalena Drmach on cello, third-year students at the music-ballet school center "Ilija Nikolovski-Luj", launched the programme within cultural event "Macedonia Honors St.Cyril" in the Rome-based Sala Baldini on Tuesday evening.
Zlatev and Drmach performed pieces by Chopin and Brahms at the concert attended by members of the state-church delegation led by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.
The concert was preceded by the address of the Macedonian Language Institute "Krste Misirkov" director Elena Jovanova-Grujovska, who referred to the mission and significance of the work of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
Jovanova-Grujovska said Cyril and Methodius were educators, missionaries, spiritual fathers and miracle makers, who taught of self-respect but also acceptance of diversities and respect of everyone's rights.
"We bow before the work of Saints Cyril and Methodius, who raised the Old Slavic language at the level of liturgical language (alongside Hebrew, Greek and Latin). They gave the people the Glagolitic alphabet, a letter based on the language spoken by the Macedonian Slavic population in the Salonika region, which preceded the Cyrillic script," said Jovanova-Grujovska.
North Macedonia's Ambassador to the Holy See, Marija Efremova, also addressed the audience.
