Anticorruption commission reviews allegations against Skopje Mayor

Skopje, 30 January 2024 (MIA) — The State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption at its online session Tuesday reviewed allegations of corruption against Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska and against several municipalities. Most claims were rejected as unfounded, and in the case of Arsovska on her appointing directors, the commission decided to forward the case to the Council of Inspection Authorities because two previous State Administrative Inspectorate audit reports were contradictory.

The anticorrupton commission also stopped its proceedings against the Municipality of Debar for not following orders by the State Administrative Inspectorate as well as against the Film Agency because both cases were already under review by other authorities.

Saying the matter was beyond their competences, anticorruption commission members declined to review reports against the municipality of Karposh for the alleged illegal granting of use of a municipal business building and against a Karposh construction inspector alleged to have not acted upon reports of illegal construction.

The session then reviewed a report against a director at the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate who had been accused of nepotism in the workplace. The anticorruption commission said it had checked the background of the case and found that "financial consent had been given."

Complaints of wrongdoing during registration of vehicles was to be forwarded to the Ministry of Interior for further review as the case was found to be under its jurisdiction.

Allegations that a public prosecutor had bought an apartment for her daughter and did not report it as a public office holder were rejected as untrue as the purchase of the apartment had in fact been reported and financed with money previously earned and saved.

The anticorruption team also discussed a proposal to review the Law on Meteorology for potential corruption and decided to forward the case to the Ministry of Economy as the law was under its jurisdiction. mr/
