467 kg of municipal waste generated per person in North Macedonia in 2022
Skopje, 21 April 2023 (MIA) - The total amount of generated municipal waste in North Macedonia in 2022 was 856 766 tonnes. The annual amount of generated municipal waste per person in 2022 was 467 kg per person, which is 3.3 % more than in 2021.
According to State Statistical Office data, the total amount of collected municipal waste in the Republic of North Macedonia in 2022 was 605 638 tonnes. Compared to 2021, the total amount of collected municipal waste decreased by 4.2%.
The highest amount of collected municipal waste was registered in the Skopje region - 172 288 tonnes or 28.4% of the total collected amount in the country. Of the total amount of collected municipal waste, 506 257 tonnes or 84% were collected from households, and the remaining 16% from legal and natural persons (commercial waste).
By waste type, the highest amount of collected waste is mixed municipal waste, 494 693 tonnes or 81.7%, and the lowest amount is rubber waste, 1 487 tonnes or 0.2% of the total amount of collected waste.
