Xhaferi – Drexler: Continued German support for N. Macedonia Euro-Atlantic integration

Skopje, 11 April 2023 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi met Tuesday with the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of North Macedonia, Petra Drexler. At the meeting, Xhaferi welcomed the Ambassador to the country and expressed his gratitude for the active engagement and continued German support for North Macedonia's EU integration.

“The dynamic parliamentary cooperation on all levels with the German Bundestag in recent years was highlighted at the meeting. Additionally, Xhaferi welcomed the activities within the frameworks of the Berlin Process, as complementary to the EU accession process and the regional initiatives, enabling greater connections between the countries and improving mutual cooperation ahead of their EU membership,” said Parliament in a press release.

Ambassador Drexler stressed that her warm welcome in North Macedonia represents a task to continue the current cooperation between the two countries and improve relations in all areas of mutual interest, adding North Macedonia’s EU membership is of exceptional importance for Germany.

The Ambassador, said the press release, stated her understanding of the complexity of the process and offered German support over securing greater social support for the continuation of the next stage of negotiations. She expressed gratitude for the country’s proactive approach and the steps taken to align with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy and the support for Ukraine.

Xhaferi and Drexler exchanged opinions on the opportunities for boosting parliamentary cooperation, about Parliament’s next steps concerning the Euro-integration process and the adoption of the necessary legislation which will increase the number of German investments in the country.
