World Bank: Macedonian economy to rise by 2.5 percent in 2024

Skopje, 10 January 2024 (MIA) - The Macedonian economy will rise by 2.5 percent in 2024 and 2.9 percent in 2025, according to World Bank projections in the latest Global Economic Prospects report.

In regional terms, Kosovo will post the highest growth in 2024 (3.9%), followed by Albania (3.2%), Montenegro (3.2%), Serbia (3%), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2.8%), Croatia (2.7%) and Bulgaria (2.4%).

In the report, the World Bank says weak external demand from the euro area affected economic activity, as well as effects of the war in Ukraine, higher inflation, and delays in reforms tied to EU accession.

Global growth is projected to slow for the third year in a row - from 2.6% last year to 2.4% in 2024.

The Eurozone is expected to rise by 0.7 percent, slightly higher than last year's 0.4 percent. The US economy will slow down from 2.5 percent in 2023 to 1.6 percent in 2024, as will the Chinese growth (from 5.2 percent in 2023 to 4.5 percent in 2024).

The report notes that the global inflation rate is projected to drop from 5.3 percent in 2023 to 3.7 percent in 2024.
