Strumica, 15 July 2023 (MIA) - The Government will reassess the decision over the merger of two concessions for the Ilovica-Shtuka mine and request additional information from the competent ministry, said Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jovanka Trenchevska on Saturday.

Ahead of the protest against the mine opening, Minister Trenchevska said SDSM's position on the opening of the Ilovica mine is the same as that of the people in the Strumica region.

She added that the SDSM-led government and the competent institutions would not allow the opening of a mine in Ilovica without consultations and approval from the local population, proper proceedings and meeting all environmental standards in accordance with EU law.

Trenchevska was accompanied by Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Kaja Shukova, MPs and local councillors at the protest in Strumica.
