Skopje, 26 August 2023 (MIA) — Rail services are still disrupted after staff from the state-owned railway company went on strike on Friday, demanding their July salaries be paid in full.
"It is outrageous. We have to stage walkouts for almost every paycheck. This is why we will ask to start negotiations and reach an agreement to stop this practice," National Railways representative Toni Dimovski told MIA.
Rail workers had previously walked out just a month ago, following several other times this year, every time over incomplete pay.
Train passengers on the Skopje–Gevgelija route scheduled for Friday 4:55 pm were the first ones hit with the disruption. Five more passenger trains as well as six freight trains were not running either, Dimovski said.
He said rail services would be disrupted until rail workers' demands were met. mr/
