Number of employees in industry drops in first quarter: statistics

Skopje, 2 May 2025 (MIA) – The number of employees in industry in March 2025 dropped by 4.3% in comparison with March 2024 also dropping by 3.9% in the first quarter compared to the same quarter in 2024, statistics show.

The number of employees in industry in the section Mining and quarrying in March 2025, in comparison with March 2024, decreased by 2.1%, in the section Manufacturing it decreased by 4.5%, and in the section Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply it decreased by 1.8%, said the State Statistical Office on Friday.

The number of employees in industry by Main Industrial Groupings in March 2025, in comparison with March 2024, was lower in Energy by 2.8%, Capital goods by 7.3%, Intermediate goods, except energy by 0.5% and Non-durable consumer goods by 6.1%, while the number of employees in industry was higher in Durable consumer goods by 13.4%.

Earlier this week, the State Statistical Office said industrial production in March 2025, in comparison with March 2024, increased by 5.2% while also rising by 2% in the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of 2024.
