Toshkovski: Stable security situation at start of Election Day

Skopje, 8 May 2024 (MIA) — The Ministry of Interior is making sure the security situation is stable in accordance with its competences, according to caretaker Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski after voting at a polling place in Johan Heinrich Pestalozzi Elementary.

"All polling stations are stable and open," he said. "Citizens can exercise their right to vote in a peaceful, fair and democratic atmosphere."

Calling for a large turnout, he said every voter had a right to a secret vote. He also thanked reporters covering the elections as well as international observers monitoring the process.

"The Interior Ministry has all the human capacities and technical resources needed to guarantee a fair and democratic electoral process," Toshkovski said.

"The Macedonian citizen can exercise his right to vote freely, based on his own conviction. Anyone who tries to illegally influence anyone in any way on this Election Day should know that the Interior Ministry in coordination with the competent public prosecutor and the court will act uncompromisingly.

"Any illegal action by any single individual will have a first name and last name and they will be held accountable before the law," Toshkovski said. mr/
