Times of disappointment created opportunities to move forward, Speaker Gashi tells Independence Day reception

Skopje, 6 September 2024 (MIA) - There is no greater moment in a country's history than its independence. That is why the emotions of joy and pride reemerge on September 8, when we celebrate the country's birthday in peace, coexistence among different communities in the country, goodneighborly relations and safe paths to a more developed and Euro-Atlantic perspective, said Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi at Friday's reception he hosted on occasion of September 8-Independence Day.

"I am aware that building this common state has not been easy and equally accepted. We have all had periods when some of us had a different perception and different expectations. We have all had moments when some of us through they deserve more and got less. We have all had moments of disappointment and said it is not worth it but still managed to find the strength, solutions and opportunities to move forward. Therefore, on this anniversary, I can say that a new development perspective opens through the new generation of politicians, and I am certain this will result in comprehensive success," said Speaker Gashi.

He said that everyone has contributed to the country's achievements, while adding that people should neither be nihilists nor defeatists.

"On its 33rd birthday, North Macedonia is a member of the most powerful security alliance NATO that guarantees peace within its borders, and is on a good path to join the most successful union of democracy, peace, human rights and well-being - the European Union. This is an occasion, as citizens and politicians, to make a retrospective of what we have done, what we could have done and what we could do. In the words of John F. Kennedy 'Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country," noted Gashi.
