Three classic Macedonian children's books printed in Braille

Three classic Macedonian children's books printed in Braille

Skopje, 27 December 2024 (MIA) — A book launch for three classic Macedonian children's books newly printed in Braille will be held at the Miladinov Brothers City Library.

"Zoki Poki" by Olivera Nikolova, "A Tale about the Child Vilen" by Gligor Popovski and "The Little Gypsy" by Vidoe Podgorec were published by Aldebaran Publishing under its Braille imprint to mark 200 years of Braille ahead of World Braille Day, Jan. 4.

"The Struga-based publishing house Aldebaran is the only one in Macedonia that has a Braille imprint," the publisher said in a press release.

The book publication was made possible by Braille experts employed at Dimitar Vlahov School for Visually Impaired Children and Youth as well as support from the Ministry of Culture and other socially responsible companies and individuals.

"It is the responsibility of our entire community," the publisher said, "to at least make these essential books available in Braille so our new generations learning to read can have equal opportunities as all other children to read classic works of Macedonian and world literature." mr/
