Elena Mitrevska to conduct Philharmonic in New Year's concert

Skopje, 26 December 2024 (MIA) — Conducted by Malmö-based Macedonian conductor Elena Mitrevska, the Philharmonic will give its traditional New Year's Eve concert titled "Listen! The New Year is Coming."
The concert program features Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Waltz of the Flowers" from the second act of The Nutcracker ballet as well as several works by Johann Strauss II, including the "The Blue Danube" Waltz, Op. 314, Radetzky March, Op. 228 and "Unter Donner und Blitz (Thunder and Lightning)", Op. 324.
Elena Mitrevska has a degree in choral and orchestra conducting from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. She has worked with prominent conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, Simon Rattle, Rene Jacobs and Cornelius Meister.
In December 2014 she received the Erwin Ortner Foundation Award for promoting talented young people in choral conducting.
Mitrevska has conducted orchestras such as Jeunesses Musicales Macedonia chamber orchestra, Wiener Kammerorchester, the Macedonian Philharmonic, Oviedo Filarmonía and the Malmö Opera Orchestra. She is currently Chorus Master at Malmö Opera. mr/
