Struga, 27 August 2023 (MIA) — The 62th Struga Poetry Evenings international poetry festival will close Sunday evening with its 'Bridges' poetry reading traditionally held on the town's Poetry Bridge, where the festival will also present this year's Golden Wreath, Miladinov Brothers, and Bridges of Struga winners with their awards.
According to festival organizers, Vlada Urosevikj will be given the 2023 Golden Wreath award, Gavin Bradley will be given the Bridges of Struga award, and Dimitar Bashevski will be given the Miladinov Brothers award.
This year's festival included several international poetry readings as well as a reading dedicated to this year's Golden Wreath laureate at Ohrid's St. Sophia church.
The venue was also where a celebration of Macedonian poet Aco Shopov's birth centenary was held.
Organizers also mounted an exhibition of photos of Shopov participating in the festival over the years and spoke about his contribution to its development.
Another exhibition marked 200 years since the birth of Hungarian poet Sándor Péterfy.
The festival also released Ivan Dzheparoski's anthology of Macedonian poetry titled "Amid the Trees: Poetry and Flora" as one of the books it publishes each year under the SPE imprint.
After the festival officially closes on Sunday evening, SPE participants will take to the road on Monday to perform their poems at informal "Poetry on the Road" readings in Krushevo and Skopje. mr/
