SSM leader: Unions expect meeting on administration workers to take place as soon as possible after gov't delegation returns from U.S.

Skopje, 21 January 2025 (MIA) - Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) leader, Slobodan Trendafilov, said on Tuesday that the Trade Union of Administration, Judiciary and Citizens' Associations (UPOZ) has received a response that their request for a meeting with the Government has been accepted, and the meeting will be held after the government delegation returns from the United States.

The SSM expects the meeting to take place as soon as possible.

"We hope it will take place as soon as possible, given that colleagues from the six ministries and the two other institutions expect the talks to intensify after they were halted as the Ministry of Finance rejected the annexes to the collective agreements. Therefore, the UPOZ shows good will in finding an appropriate solution through social dialogue, but colleagues from these institutions stand ready to continue the protests and possibly take other activities in line with the law," Trendafilov said in response to a reporter's question at Tuesday's press conference.

Workers from several ministries, the State Statistical Office and the State Archive have been holding warning protests demanding the signing of collective agreements and a pay rise of 30 percent. The Government accepted the request for a meeting submitted by UPOZ.

On Friday, the Government told MIA that a meeting between the Government and UPOZ will take place after Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski returns from his official visit to the United States.
