Skopje, 23 May 2024 (MIA) — Former Minister of Interior and now elected SDSM Member of Parliament Oliver Spasovski said Thursday some of the reasons his party had been defeated in the parliamentary election included the Friendship Treaty with Bulgaria and the actions of their government coalition partner DUI.

"There are several reasons for this result, but if I have to point out a few, they are the party's position to do the hardest things so the country can move forward, such as the Agreement with Bulgaria, which was in the public discourse the entire time; DUI's behavior toward SDSM, toward the situation in the country; the events that happened to us during all these years; the professional potential, etc., all had a great impact," Spasovski told Click Plus on TV 21.

Spasovski said there had been issues SDSM and DUI disagreed on and could not resolve, but he also voiced his belief that a debate should be encouraged in the government and in every institution.

"To accept what is good, and to not accept what isn't," Spasovski said. "The public perception is that whatever DUI have asked for, SDSM has given it to them. We will see if that perception came to be for a reason or if there was none. Unfortunately, politics is mostly perception. Regardless of the decisions made. As for this issue being discussed — that anything that was asked for was then given — now we have an opportunity to see what kind of relations the new government will establish between the coalition parties."

He said a responsible approach to politics focused on what was important and beneficial for the future of the country and its citizens instead of being led by "personal interest, which is very easy."

The former government minister added that no SDSM lawmakers would support the majority in Parliament. "I am convinced that there is no MP from SDSM who will support the current majority," Spasovski said. mr/
