Skopje public prosecutor's office opens case against NSA head after anonymous charges were filed

Skopje, 1 November 2024 (MIA) – The Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case after anonymous criminal charges were filed against National Security Agency (NSA) head, Bojan Hristiovski.

The prosecution confirmed for MIA that it has received an anonymous report, which is already being investigated by a public prosecutor.

Bojan Hristovski’s appointment at the helm of an institution tasked with security and counterintelligence was met with public backlash.

The opposition party SDSM called on the public prosecution office to open investigation and determine accountability after, as it said, the law was broken.

“Hristovski doesn’t hold an internationally recognized English language certificate, instead, he had obtained a falsified document, which constitutes violation of the law. We call on the public prosecution to open a case according to its jurisdictions. We call for transparent investigation into the scandal,” said SDSM.

Last week, the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption opened a case over the appointment of Bojan Hristovski as director of NSA after receiving an anonymous report saying he allegedly doesn’t meet the conditions required to be appointed as head of an institution.

In October, the government at a session dismissed Zarko Miloshevski as NSA head and named Bojan Hristovski as his successor.
