Skopje protest organizers say not related to any political party, want to live in a safe country

Skopje, 24 March 2025 (MIA) - We are a citizens’ initiative, we are not related to any political party. We are active citizens, we want to stay here, to live in Macedonia, but we want for it to be a safe country. We are looking for responsibility, safety and transparency and that is why we are protesting, Milena Janevska, a representative of the movement “Koj e sleden?” (Who is next?) told journalists ahead of Monday’s protest in Skopje.

According to Janevska the movement has no leaders and operates on the principle of “one person, one vote”.

“We expect transparency from the investigative bodies and support from the media, we expect everyone related to the tragedy in Kochani and all previous tragedies to be held to account. We would also like to express our complete support for the medical staff, and everyone involved in the investigation. We are on the streets because the people’s voice should be heard, any feelings of anger among the citizens are justified,” Janevska stressed.

The protest began with three minutes of silence, laying flowers and lighting candles for the victims of the fire in Kochani. Protesters are set to march from the Macedonia Square to the building of Parliament and then the Government.

Ahead of the protest, “Koj e sleden?” said they firmly oppose any form of violence and provocations, as well as any behavior that aims to disrupt public peace and order.

“Any partisan symbols are banned since the protest is a citizens’ initiative and must not be used for partisan goals,” organizers added.
