Skopje prosecutors file indictments after incidents at protests against French proposal
Skopje, 12 July 2022 (MIA) - The Skopje Public Prosecutor's Office after completing an investigation on Tuesday to the court filed indictments against twelve people for being involved in the incidents during last week's protests in Skopje against the French proposal for the opening of EU negotiations.
Of those, nine people are charged with "participation in a mob" and three men with "causing general danger" according to the Criminal Code.
The court has already ordered home arrest for seven men and five were put in detention. Prosecutors have asked the court to extend the measures, the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.
Nine men indicted today were part of a crowd that was prepared to commit "violence" under the Criminal Code during a protest in front of Parliament on July 5 and 6.
They threw stones, paving bricks, iron-made objects, traffic signs, trash bins and firecrackers at the police guarding the Parliament's building injuring 27 police officers, including one who sustained severe injuries, said the prosecution, adding the indicted men caused material damage valued at 576,665 denars all the while damaging police gear and a police vehicle.
Two Skopje men, 18 and 26, are also indicted for preparing and throwing a Molotov cocktail at the police cordon guarding the Parliament.
Also, a 40-year-old Skopje man is charged with causing general danger after firing a handgun in the air during a protest march on July 6.
